I have been to Egypt many times, but I have not been there in several years. I wanted a reference to have handy while in Egypt to help with all the changes, as I know many sites have new hours and new fees and the ticket offices have changed locations, and, of course, there are always new hotels (or name changes) and new restaurants. This book had the latest revisions (2015) I could find.If you actually have an interest in the archaeological sites, this book is not written for you and would be a total disappointment. It has lots of pretty pictures and very little real information. The target audience seems to be the casual tourist who has no particular knowledge of ancient Egypt.The best book that contains real information remains William Murnane’s The Ancient Egypt Guide, f/k/a The Penguin Guide to Ancient Egypt. It was updated in 2012 by Aidan Dodson.So what about the more recent information that I was seeking—hotels, restaurants, tickets? Well, a lot of it is already outdated as Egypt changed much of its ticket policies over the last two years. I was surprised that many of the restaurants that are currently popular with folks I know who have been to Egypt recently were not mentioned, nor were many that I have been to and enjoyed over the years (my favorite pizza place, for instance) that I assume or know are still there. That doesn’t mean that the book doesn’t give good restaurant suggestions and hasn’t offered new places to try, just that the information given is very limited. I forgot how much I love these DK Eyewitness Guides. They're so informative and to the point, small enough to carry with you to reference while traveling, plenty of pictures so you can quickly flip through and arrive upon what you're looking for (I don't like traveling and viewing things if I can't remember/recognize something). My upcoming trip to Egypt is an important one, so I'll definitely be using this there where normally I'd leave at home. Will be ordering their Jerusalem/Jordan (whatever combo of places it is) for the same trip as we're heading there as well. I also love that it's printed on high quality, sleek/shiny paper. It makes using/flipping through much easier and it holds up better to abuse when traveling. Highly recommend these books.
